Abstract
Prospects of use of alternative biofuels (biodiesel, ethanol and compressed natural gas) in European Union andLithuaniaare analyzed in the article. According to the requirement of the directive 2003/30/EC of the European Parliament and Council inLithuaniauntil 2010 year will be used 5.75% of the biofuels to compare with total use of fossil fuels for transport. The use of biofuels will be increased to 20% until 2025 year. The biodiesel inLithuaniais produced by rapeseed oil while the ethanol is produced by wheat. In near future the ethanol will be used for production of biodiesel instead of methanol. In this time the compressed natural gas have been begun uses as fuel for transport. It is the cheapest fuel for transport.
