Abstract

The review analyzes the results of Monograph “Small Bioreactors for Management of Biodegrabable Waste” by Prof. dr. habil. dr. Pranas Baltrėnas and prof. dr. Edita Baltrėnaitė. The main topic of the monograph is how to reduce the growing amount of waste, combat the greenhouse effect and the negative environmental impact by using small bioreactors. This book is the result of a long and consistent work of scientists, summarizing and analyzing many years of scientific results. The book analyzes sources, characteristics, quantities, flow forecasts, determination of biogas content and composition of biodegradable waste in small rural and food industries, as well as in household communities (municipal farms). Research and development of small bioreactors for biogas extraction for small agricultural and food industries, research and development of small composting bioreactors as part of bio-power plants, gaseous emissions from composting, their qualitative composition and construction of small composting plants. Small bioreactors for biogas production in the world are analyzed and prototypes of small bioreactors with periodic and continuous operation with biomass preparation reservoir near, above bioreactor with one and two sections, created at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. The monograph has great practical value. The results are recommended for use in rural individual farms and small food businesses.
