Abstract

Bench tests were carried out of Peugeot 1.9 D (XUD9) diesel engine to investigate the possibilities to improve economic and ecological indicators of engine using 80% diesel 20% biobutanol fuel blend and also Brown‘s gas (H2, O2). Research was performed in different engine loads at constant crankshaft speed n = 2000 min-1. Results were compared with rates obtained using diesel fuels. Brown‘s gas are produced by electrolysis. Using 12 V voltage 30 A strength electric current in a minute there are produced 2.5 l H2 and O2 gas blend. Depending on the load the hydrogen mass in supplied gas regarding fuel mass vary from 0.1% to 0.5%. Additionally supplying Brown‘s gas into intaken engine air when using diesel fuel and as well diesel and biobutanol fuel blend on small and medium loads the engine effective efficiency increased 10 %. Additional Brown‘s gas supply improves hydrocarbon combustion so in this case the HC amount in exhaust gases reduced to 80 %. On small and medium loads the NOx amount in exhaust gases reduced 10 ... 30%. Usage of additional Brown‘s gas supply with diesel fuel and biobutanol blend exhaust smoke comparing with diesel fuel smoke reduced 10 ... 20%.
