THE ANALYSIS OF DEVELOPMENT OF GASEOUS FUEL USE FOR TRANSPORT
Lithuanian Energy Institute
Abstract
The analysis of development of different kind of gaseous fuels, such as compressed natural gas, liquid natural gas, biogas, hydrogen and hydro– methane in European Union countries and Lithuania are analyzed in the article. According to the requirement of the Directive (2003/30/EC) of the European Parliament and Council, Lithuania until 2010 year had to use 2 % of Compressed Natural Gas to

compare with total use of fossil fuels for transport. This task was not solved in time. However until 2015 year this index must be reach 5 %, until 2020 – 10 %. Also in this period in Lithuania must be used the definite amount of Hydrogen or hydro-methane.
The article evaluates the EU experience with the use of gaseous fuels analysis, determination of this type of fuels consumption and the development priorities of the country, taking into biogas and hydrogen for transport options. The compressed natural gas(CNG) and hydro-methane use for transport is now in beginning stage in Lithuania.
